How to Accessorize Like Rick Grimes

If you have ever spent a restless Sunday night mulling over the problems that Rick and the group are confronting, you are not alone. If any of that time was spent thinking about what Rick’s accessories are, then I’m not alone.

Rick’s accessories vary as the seasons progress. Since the beginning, he pretty much always has his belt, holster, pistol and wedding ring, and as time passes he gradually picks up a few other items.

Rick Grimes' Wedding Ring

Throughout the series even after he is technically a widower, Rick continues to wear his wedding band.

Rick’s wedding band appears to be a simple gold band. It is an obvious symbol for his undying affection to his dearly departed, but it obviously doesn’t deter him from making a move on a married woman just after arriving at Alexandria.

If you are looking for a decent one, this wedding band is a great match to Rick's wedding ring.

Rick's Belt & Holster

Rick’s belt, as we discussed in my previous article, is standard police issue black leather. It could be difficult to obtain a quality belt without overspending.

In lieu of wasting all of my budget on the belt, I chose to settle for a simpler, more affordable alternative.

This is a basic black leather belt and it is an acceptable alternative to the real thing.

Rick Grimes' Holster

Rick's holster is designed with a 4 inch barrel in mind. As you may or may not know, Rick wields a revolver with a 6 inch barrel.

If you haven’t ever noticed, his holster is actually cut-off to accommodate for his larger fire-arm. So if you intend on being show-accurate you will need to cut yours down to size as well.

This holster on Amazon is high quality with an authentic look and feel.

This alternative holster isn’t completely accurate, but it’s a more reasonable choice considering you will be cutting it up the moment you get it.

Rick's Revolver & Machete

Rick Grimes wields a Colt Python .357 with wood grips. If you have the allowance in your budget you might consider picking up the functioning weapon, if not I would suggest something else. Airsoft rifles, they can be much more affordable and are positively a safer alternative.

This airsoft pistol is what I own. It is available and in stock on Amazon and it’s almost identical to Rick’s weapon of choice.

This airsoft pistol is also a great choice for a Rick Grimes revolver.

Sling Blade

Rick’s boots might have been made for walking, but his machete was made for keeping promises.

If you are as much a man of your word as Rick Grimes, then you may just need a machete one day (Heaven forbid), should you come up against a villain as calculating and devious as Gareth.

Obviously you can’t just go running around in public with a large sharp piece of metal, so if you’re looking to pick up a Rick grimes machete, then I would suggest a replica.

This Halloween themed machete replica is a great match to the one Rick acquaints Gareth to.

Rick Grimes' Satchel

I’m not really sure when Rick started to carry the satchel, but I’m assuming that it was some time after the prison. Honestly I really couldn’t find much relevant information on it at all other than the fact that it’s olive green.

As far as what he keeps in it, that’s up for debate… Supplies? probably. Nudie magazines? maybe. One thing is certain it is most definitely NOT a razor!

Personally I think this is his most useful accessory, especially if you’re doing some Rick Grimes cosplay, you can store all of your con merch right in the bag.

This olive colored men’s shoulder bag is an excellent match to the one Rick carries.

Rick's Watch

Rick’s watch has become a main attraction in recent seasons. As you might remember, he gives his watch to the hippy kid Sam in season 4 who then mysteriously never returns along with the watch… or so we thought.

As it turns out, Sam somehow ends up at Terminus and is seen shortly before he is slaughtered by the terminus butcher.

I’m not certain if Rick recognizes him or not, but it doesn’t really matter because somehow Carol ends up stumbling upon Rick’s watch in the “Lost and Found” storage room where terminus keeps their victim’s belongings.

This Citizen Quartz silver dial watch is the nearest match I could find to Rick’s watch, and honestly it is nearly an exact match. 

Mid-Season 6 Updates

While Rick’s overall appearance hasn’t changed too much over the course of the last season, he does have a selection of new accessories to speak of.

One thing that Rick wears at the end of the mid-season finale is his walker guts disguise/bloody poncho. A screen accurate representation wouldn’t be too difficult to put together. You’ll just need a beige or similar colored poncho.  

To dirty it up, a fair amount of red fabric die and/or stage blood, which you can find in our guide on how to look like the walking dead right here.

This waffle knit poncho in beige would make a great base for making your own bloody walker-gut-covered poncho like Rick’s!

During Season 6, Rick has already been seen using a number of new weapons, including: S&W Sigma and an Orion flare gun.  His main weapon of choice is still of course his trusty Colt Python.

A simple hatchet is another new item Rick is noted to use during the sixth season of The Walking Dead.

This Husqvarna hatchet is a decent match to the one used by Rick Grimes during the mid-season finale.

Thanks to Nick in the comments below, we know that Rick's actual hatchet is a Cold Steel gang hatchet.

Also during the sixth season of TWD, Rick has been noted to use a Glock 19 pistol.

This Umarex airsoft pistol is modeled after the Glock 19 and would make a great match to the one used by Rick.
