Fallout 4 is a “Western-style” RPG published by Bethesda Softworks that revolves around the Sole Survivor and his or her endurance in a post-apocalyptic world. It takes place in the Boston area beginning on October 23, 2077. (Known in-game as “The Commonwealth,” which is short for The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.)

The Sole Survivor, along with their spouse and son (Shaun), are granted access into a high-tech fallout shelter known simply as a “Vault”- moments before Nuclear detonations erupt.

While trapped in cryo-stasis in the Vault, the Sole Survivor’s spouse is murdered and child-abducted. It isn’t until the year 2287 that they awake alone, the Sole Survivor of Vault 111.

Ahead you will find a guide to help you match the fashion and style of the Sole Survivor from Fallout 4.

The Hats & Headgear of The Sole Survivor

In Fallout 4 The Sole Survivor has a multitude of different options when it comes to all of the different hats and headgear that they are able to acquire and wear.

These include many real world items such as a fedora or chef’s hat, as well as many fictional items such as the Synth helmet.

If it is your goal to create an accurate Sole Survivor cosplay or Fallout 4 costume in general, might I suggest one of these hats and helmets that I found to match items available in-game?

This Fedora in gray is a great match to the hat you may find around the commonwealth. It is likely most recognizable as the signature hat of everyone’s favorite P.I. - Nick Valentine.

Here is an Aussie Slouch hat that is a perfect match to the hat worn by Preston Garvey of the Commonwealth Minutemen.

This blue batting helmet is quite similar to the batting helmet available within the game.

Here is a green army helmet that is a perfect match to helmets worn by “Gunners,” and often times available to the Sole Survivor.

This baseball catcher’s mask is nearly identical to the ones worn by the security guards posted in and around Diamond City.

Here is a gas ventilation mask that is very similar to the ones available in Fallout 4.

Sole Survivor's Jackets

The Sole Survivor has the option of choosing from many different jackets and coats within Fallout 4.

These include: lab coats, trench coats, and even an authentic Silver Shroud costume jacket, just to name a few.

This white lab coat is a perfect match to the jackets worn by settlement doctors within the game, as well as Vault-Tec lab coats.

Here is a khaki colored trench coat that is not only accessible to the Sole Survivor, but is the signature jacket of Nick Valentine.

Slipping into the Armor & Clothing

The sheer variety of separate items of clothing available within Fallout 4 is honestly overwhelming. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing, but choosing a set of clothing that suits you can be difficult.

For the role of Sole Survivor, the obvious choice would be the blue and yellow Vault 111 jumpsuit, but as I stated previously there are many other options available, such as the tuxedo or baseball uniform. It’s really a matter of personal preference.

This baseball catcher’s chest protector is very similar to the ones worn Diamond City security guards.

This Vault 111 jumpsuit is a favorable choice, although it is not an exact replica.

Here is a green military jumpsuit that is a perfect match to the “Military Fatigues” available to the Sole Survivor in Fallout 4.

This tuxedo is another perfect match to the one available within the world of Fallout 4. Should you feel that your version of the Sole Survivor is more like a spy or secret agent, or maybe just has an important event to attend.

Here is a set of baseball uniform pants with red piping that are nearly identical to the baseball uniform pants worn by Moe, the “Swatter” salesman in Diamond City.

This white baseball uniform jersey is very similar to the one also worn and sold by Moe in Diamond City.

Sole Survivor Miscellaneous

In addition to the vast array of clothing options available to the Sole Survivor, there are a couple of miscellaneous items that help to complete the look.

These brown military combat boots are nearly identical to the boots worn by the Sole Survivor in Fallout 4.

Finally we have the Sole Survivors most important tool and accessory - the Pip-Boy.

The Pip-Boy helps the Sole Survivor to not only manage their stats, health and inventory, but it also grants the user access to the V.A.T.S. battle mechanic (short for “Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System).

Here is an officially licensed Pip-Boy replica, which no Sole Survivor cosplay would be complete without.

That just about wraps it up for our guide on “How to dress like the Sole Survivor” from Fallout 4.  Don’t forget to check out my guide on “How to accessorize like the Sole Survivor.”
