For me, the first season of the 2005 Dr. Who reboot will always hold a special place in my nerd heart.
I wish I could say I was a fan of the original series, but after watching a couple of old episodes with my dad, I never could grasp the appeal and found the show very weird… and not in a good way. Perhaps I was just too young at the time.
When the 2005 reboot was announced, my friends were ecstatic at the announcement while I could care less. That quickly changed however, when the new series hit the airwaves. After practically being forced to watch the first episode, I was hooked.

Who is this crazy guy who calls himself “The Doctor”. How does the TARDIS work? How is it that the TARDIS is so much bigger on the inside? … so many questions, some answered, many more not. Each episode introducing different types of aliens; the entire human race threatened in almost every other episode with Dr. Who and Rose Tyler at the helm saving mankind.
What is not to love? Many make fun of this first series with its clunky special effects that features Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor.
To me, the special effects while perhaps cheaply done, are not important. The story writing is what is so great about Dr. Who and really is what makes the show a favorite for so many.
So enough with why I am obsessed with Dr. Who, let’s get to why we are all here… the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston Dr. Who style guide.
Dressing like the ninth doctor is actually pretty simple because he wears basically the same thing in every episode. I have compiled a list of clothing items that I have found that best match what the ninth doctor wears on the show to help you make your own Christopher Eccleston Dr. Who cosplay or Halloween costume.
Doctor Who's Jacket

The most essential piece to the ninth doctor's outfit is of course his Jacket.
It was the first thing I noticed about him when I started watching Dr. Who, long before I would have thought to make a costume.
The jacket is a 3-buttoned German WWII U-boat jacket...fitting for a man who has spent a lifetime immersed in a never ending war. I found some close matches to his jacket on Amazon.
He wears matching jackets in both brown and black, but I really like the black leather jacket.
I suppose you could wear any black or brown leather jacket, but with such few features to the ninth doctor’s overall style, you may just look like someone walking around in a leather jacket.
So having an exact match for his jacket is crucial for pulling off the ninth doctors costume.
The Doctor's Shirt

The ninth doctor loves his V necks. He likes to wear dark colors like forest green, black, dark navy blue, and burgundy.
One thing to make sure of is that you are not getting a deep cut V neck. He is not showing off his chest hair or anything as it only comes down slightly lower than a standard T shirt.
For the sake of compiling a costume I would recommend the Real Essentials brand, 4 pack as a low cost option. The collar on these V necks fit very closely to the ones he wears on the show.
For an even closer match I like the this v-neck. It is the closest match I have been able to find as the actual brand he wears on the show is unknown.
That about wraps it up for his shirts, grab a dark V neck and you are good to go.
Pants
When you are racing across space and time fighting forces of evil and rescuing mankind, the last thing on your mind is what kind of pants to pick up at the mall or department store.
The ninth doctor does not mess around with his pants selection. He goes for standard black work pants. When you are constantly on the go you can’t have bell bottoms or baggy jeans slowing you down.
My two favorite brands of work pants are Dickies and Carhartt. Both are low cost options and are very close to what The Doctor wears on the show.
You could also get away with more dressy style pants like Dockers, which offer a little more comfort in my opinion. Just make sure they are black and not skin tight and you should be set.
The Doctor's Boots

What good is an alien-fighting, time-traveling soldier without a good pair of combat boots? The Doctor’s boots have to be my favorite part of this costume. I mean, how often can you find an excuse to wear combat boots?
The Doctor wears black 6" Timberlands in the show and are exactly what I would recommend. If you are going to do it you may as well do it correctly.
However, if you are on a budget you can pull off the look with a pair of Caterpillar brand boots, just make sure the pant legs are covering the yellow Caterpillar logos.
There we go, you should be stomping the Dalek into a pile of rubbish in no time.
The Doctor's Accessories

For accessories, the 9th Doctor really does not have much to offer however there is one - the Sonic Screwdriver.
Since there are so few accessories, it makes it that much more important to include The Sonic Screwdriver with your costume.
The 9th doctor also wears a watch. He never makes a big deal of it and you only notice it peeking from underneath his jacket sleeve every once in awhile.
I have not been able to find anything that matches this watch. If you have already solved this puzzle please let me know in the comment section below so we can help others trying to pull off this costume.
"Fantastic!"
Well there you have it. I hope this helps anyone trying to make a 9th Doctor, Doctor Who Halloween or Cosplay costume.
